Longhorns On The Field
A powerhouse of a football program for decades. Amongst college footballs best. A member of one conference(Big 12) since 1996. A total of four national football titles in the history of the program. An unbelievable number(32) of conference championships. Only two(Ricky Williams & Earl Campbell) previous Heisman winners in school history.
For the past 72 NFL drafts, Texas has sent at least one player to the NFL. For the past 73 years, Texas is ranked as the #7 college football team. A team that has just under 850 wins & a winning percentage over 70%. There are only two other schools(Notre Dame & Michigan) that can say they have a better winning percentage than the Longhorns.
Trailing only one other football program(USC) for most post-season bowl game appearances. A total of 1196 games played which ranks them #8 in this statistical category. The Longhorns have played in a BCS game 4 out of 12 years & being victorious in three of those appearances. One of those was a high-stakes national championship game back in 2005 against USC. The other two BCS wins were against fellow powerhouses OSU & another one against USC.
Men's Basketball
A basketball program that's been playing just as long as the prestigious football program. The basketball team has just as much to be proud of too. A team that has been a regular visitor to the NCAA tournament for several years straight. For the past 11 seasons, a team with 20 or more victories.
In terms of basketball, Texas ranks 15th all-time in wins for D1-A schools. They have won a total of 27 conference championships. They still haven't claimed a national championship besides their success. Texas basketball is currently lead by Rick Barnes. He has been at the forefront for 12 seasons running now. Barnes came over from Clemson after spending 5 years there.
He has compiled a 294-115 coaching record in 12 seasons. Texas has a well known player that currently plays in the NBA & is becoming a star. Kevin Durant is this guy & he played for Texas in 2007 but left for the NBA after only one season. He currently plays for the Oklahoma City Thunder.
America's(Or Should I Say Texas) Favorite Pastime
A haven for top college baseball play. A team that has won more games percentage-wise than than other other program. Only 1 other baseball team that has an advantage over them in victories too. A team that has been a regular in the tournament for college baseball's best(CWS). Not only just appearing, but, having the most victories as well.
There's only one other school(USC) that has more national titles. USC has twelve in their trophy case while Texas only has six. A school that has ¾ of a century(75) worth of conference championships The school has passed some very fine players through & then onto the highest level of baseball. One of those is "Rocket" Roger Clemens who had a magnificent MLB career.
